What a re-roof involves
A full re-roof starts with the old covering coming off. Underneath, we check the timbers and the felt, put right anything that is not sound, then batten and re-cover the roof in tiles or slate. Ridges, hips, verges and flashings are finished at the same time, so you are not left with a new roof and old weak spots.
We work on terraces, semis, detached houses, bungalows, garages and outbuildings. If your house has a chimney, valleys or a flat section where the roof meets an extension, we will look at those as part of the same visit and tell you plainly what we think needs doing.
Tiles, slate and getting the choice right
Plenty of roofs around Brighton and along the south coast are concrete interlocking tiles, clay plain tiles or natural slate. We will talk through what suits your house, how it will look from the street, and how it compares with what is on there now. Customers have told us they appreciated being walked through the options rather than being pushed towards one.
If your home is listed or in a conservation area, the choice of material can be restricted. Mention it when you call and we will take it into account.
Timing, weather and tidying up
How long a re-roof takes depends on the size of the roof, the complexity and the weather, and we will give you a realistic idea when we quote. Because the roof is open while the work is underway, we keep an eye on the forecast and protect the house as we go. When we finish, rubbish is cleared and the site is left tidy, something our reviewers mention often.
